Age Calculator

Calculate your exact age in years, months, and days.

How your exact age is worked out

Your age is the time between your date of birth and a chosen date, normally today. The calculator breaks the gap into complete years, months and days and also shows the total number of days lived, which is handy for forms that ask for age as on a particular date, such as exam eligibility or job applications.

How the calculation works

First the tool subtracts the birth year from the target year. If your birthday has not yet occurred in the target year, one year is removed. The remaining months and days are then counted, borrowing days from the previous month when needed. Leap years are handled, so someone born on 29 February is counted correctly.

Worked example

For a birth date of 15 August 2000 and a target date of 10 October 2026: the years are 26 (the birthday in August has already passed), then 1 month and 25 days, so the age is 26 years, 1 month and 25 days (counting from 15 September to 10 October).

When people need an exact age

  • Competitive-exam and job eligibility, where the age is checked on a fixed cut-off date.
  • School admissions, which often require age as on 31 March or 1 April.
  • Insurance and pension forms, where age at the nearest or last birthday changes the premium.

Frequently asked questions

Can I find my age on a past or future date?

Yes. Change the "age at" date to any date and the calculator recalculates.
